One of the greatest barriers that we face in health equity is underrepresentation. Hispanics and Latinos are disproportionately underrepresented in the fields of healthcare and medicine, making up only 5.3% of 2018-19 medical school graduates. As of 2018, only 5.8% of doctors were Hispanic.

To address this hurdle, NHHF is proud to present our Hispanic Health Professional Student scholarship to over a dozen students each year who are studying to join the healthcare field and work in underserved communities. Because 24% of medical school matriculants of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin had over $25,000 in education debt even before they begin medical school, we know how important this is to empower the next generation of leaders.
